Guides / Whitetail magnification
What magnification for whitetail?
Short answer: 8x for most deer hunters. 10x if you hunt big fields, ag edges, or open prairie.
Treestand in timber: shots are close and light fades fast. 8x42 gives a wide, bright view.
Field edges and food plots: 8x or 10x both work. If you often judge bucks past 200 yards, lean 10x.
Plains and open country: 10x42 helps you read antlers at distance.
Last light: a 42 mm objective is the sweet spot for weight and low-light brightness.
